One word. Big leaders.

The Town Hall Forum at AISTech 2026 impressively demonstrated the dynamism and sense of optimism with which the U.S. steel industry is currently repositioning itself:

One word was asked to describe the current situation of the U.S. steel industry. The answers from the five panelists ranged from “dynamic” and “rebirth” to “inflection point,” “microcosm,” and “health.” Terms that aptly summarize the technological and economic transformation of the industry!

A new player has also  itself in the customer segmentestablished: data centers are increasingly becoming major consumers of steel products. However, they also compete with steel manufacturers regarding the supply of electrical energy.

The use of artificial intelligence remains a key technological driver. In addition to data-driven process optimization and more efficient production control, AI is also gaining increasing importance in the area of workplace safety.

The Townhall Forum once again demonstrated closely how innovation, production, and strategic industrial policy are now intertwined . Among those participating in the on-stage discussion were Paul Lawrence (CMC), Kevin Lewis (U.S. Steel), Douglas Matthews (Orion Steel), Jack Sullivan (Nucor), as well as Kristopher Westbrooks ( Metallus).

For AMEPA , the forum is a valuable source of inspiration. The American steel industry is no longer just discussing change; it is consistently translating it into growth.
